Start Date: July 2009
Project duration: 7 months
Summary:
In this project we aim at carrying out a small pilot field study about the role of kinship for social security in Kosovo, which is an especially burning problem for the Kosovo society today. With this pilot study, economic, social and cultural dimensions will be linked in order to give innovative accounts on the problem of social security in Kosovo. Furthermore, more in-depth research in this field shall be stimulated and research and scholarly collaboration between the University of Prishtina, University of Graz and University of Zagreb shall be strengthened. This will be strengthened by a joint workshop in Prishtina as well as a visit of an early stage researcher from Prishtina in Graz. The ASO project will be placed in the context of methods used and results achieved in the EU 6th framework project on “kinship and social security” carried out in 8 European countries (2004-2008) (see: http://www.eth.mpg.de/kass/). In the turn of the project, the state of the art of the current social security role of kinship ties in European context, and its historical background, will be disseminated and scientific discussion will be encouraged. The project furthermore aims at producing a first set of data on kinship in social security, and should serve as a fundament for the development of a larger research project which will consequently be defined in detail on the basis of findings on this pilot study. In this project, gender issues as well as the role of migration or social security will be prominently addressed.
